Our Approach

Glycosphingolipids (GSLs):

An essential part of the cell membrane and needed for regular cell function

A disruption of GSL degradation causes inflammation across different organ systems

Severe disruption of GSL degradation causes Gaucher Disease

Less severe mutations still significantly raise cancer and neurodegeneration risk in parts of the ageing population

Protalea therapeutics tackle GSL-related inflammation before it has a chance to cause a disease state

Who we are

Dr Elena Pavlova is a clinician and research scientist developing a new preventive treatment for blood and liver cancers based on more than 15 years of research in Cambridge University. Elena’s experimental studies have revealed new insights into association of autoimmunity and Gaucher disease.
